The Mozambican government is reviewing the Petroleum Law. The process has been ongoing for over a year. The final version is currently being considered by the Council of Ministers and is expected to be approved by Parliament, in principle in May.

There is no doubt that the Petroleum Law needs updating. The current version was drawn up in 2001, long before natural gas discoveries in the Rovuma Basin and prospects for the production of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
