The terms that govern mining and oil operations in Mozambique by international companies are currently contained in confidential contracts.
It is in the interest of the Government, companies and, above all, Mozambican citizens that this information is publicly available. Contract transparency increases public confidence in the government's management of natural resources, reduces tax evasion, thereby increasing state revenues, and creates an equitable competitive environment for national and international companies.
Many countries rich in mineral resources make extractive sector contracts available to the public. These countries include: Afghanistan, Bahrain, Bolivia, Colombia, Congo-Brazzaville, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Niger, Peru, Sao Tome and Principe, Timor-Leste and the United States of America.
