Mozambican Political Elite to “Hunt” Service Provision Contracts in the Extractive Industry

There is a new pattern in the 'rent-seeking' of the Frelimo party's nomenclature: the formation of firms to provide services in the extractive industry, with a greater focus on the oil and gas sector. The fact is that, while the large Western and Eastern multinational companies compete for oil and gas concessions in Mozambique, the nomenclature is strategically positioned to capture secondary businesses, particularly the provision of services to multinationals.

The main sectors covered include the storage and transport of gas, civil construction and real estate services, both within the scope of resettlement and within the scope of providing accommodation for companies, as well as in the security sector. The monitoring of business movements of the nomenclature, carried out by the CIP through the Database of Business Interests, brings some examples:
