The road accident rate has been on the rise and with dramatic consequences in the country. Every year, on average, four thousand traffic accidents are registered, resulting in more than two thousand victims, including deaths and serious injuries. According to the World Health Organization, road accidents represent a cost of 90 million dollars. The Government points to the human factor – speeding, irregular overtaking, drunken driving – as the main growth factor in accident rates in recent days and completely ignores an important factor in the equation: corruption in institutions of road regulation and inspection.
