In recent years, the Mozambican state has accumulated US$142.5 million in debt with economic agents, relating to VAT refunds, and is now facing difficulties in terms of liquidity and technical capacity to make the payment. A large part of this amount, the equivalent of US$114 million, which corresponds to 80% of the total VAT refund, is due to megaprojects, namely Vale Moçambique, Rio Tinto, Anadarko, Mozambique Leaf Tobacco.
