On May 15, 2018, the President of the Republic, Felipe Nyusi, appointed João Osvaldo Moisés Machatine to the post of Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, a ministry where he had already held functions as deputy minister at the beginning of the year of 2015.
At the time he was deputy minister of the department in question, the Center for Public Integrity (CIP) warned that this holder of public office has all the conditions to be involved in situations of conflict of interest and influence peddling, since he has private interests that may conflict with the object of the ministerial entity under his tutelage.
