The CNE announced on February 14th that for the October 2019 Elections it needs funding of around 14,600 million meticais (USD 245 million) and that it faces a deficit of 56%. However, the amount announced by the CNE as necessary to cover the budget for the 2019 elections represents an increase of 508% relative to the expenses made in 2014, an increase completely out of the trend of other election years, without presenting the arguments that justify it and that does not find support in the dynamics of economic variables.
Therefore, it is recommended that the justification of the expected needs for the electoral process and the respective costs be made public and in detail, with emphasis on subsidies, in order to allow public scrutiny on the relevance of these proposals and the costs to these associates.
BUDGET FOR ELECTIONS FOR 2019 IS EXCESSIVE
