New restructuring deal is fallacious, debt repayment remains dependent on gas revenues

Novo acordo de reestruturação é falacioso, pagamento da dívida continua dependente das receitas do gás

The Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), on the 31st of May of the current year, released a new agreement of principles with the Global Group of Bondholders of Mozambique (GGMB). The same highlights the non-inclusion of the issuance of instruments to recover values associated with the gas projects in areas 1 and 4 of the Rovuma basin.
This agreement conveys the perception that the Government will no longer use gas revenues to pay EMATUM's illegal debt. However, if this restructuring is approved in the current public finance management model, the revenues used between 2020 and 2031 included those from gas. Furthermore, the CIP has been presenting the perspective of various international experts with proposals for different mechanisms that the State has at its disposal to avoid paying these debts. However, we continue to witness, insistently and persistently, a selfless willingness on the part of the Executive to pay these odious debts.

After all, why does the Government of Mozambique insist on not defending the interests of Mozambicans?
