At the trial, the government will show that Jean Boustani and his co-conspirators knew that Mozambique did not disclose to the IMF Proindicus and MAM guarantees worth more than US$ 1.2 billion. Then, co-defendant Manuel Chang, Minister of Finance of Mozambique who signed the guarantees, left office and the conspirators informed the new Minister of Finance about the guarantees of Proindicus and MAM, having told him that the transactions were not disclosed to the IMF, the new minister agreed to continue not revealing MAM and Proindicus loans to the IMF. The co-conspirators also agreed to hide that EMATUM and Proindicus were not able to make their interest payments and to hide information from EMATUM auditors” – extract from US Court document against Jean Boustani, the executive of Privinvest and brain of hidden debts, detained in New York since January 2 of this year, awaiting trial.
