Civil society organizations, the Episcopal Commission for Justice and Peace (CEJP), the Provincial Union of Peasants (UPC) of Cabo Delgado, the Department of Ethics, Citizenship and Development of the Catholic University (UCM), the Observatory of the Rural Environment (OMR) ), SEKELEKANI, the Center for Public Integrity (CIP) and Environmental Justice (JA) met at Sala Magna of UCM- in Pemba, with other invited organizations, members of the Provincial Government and various individuals to discuss about “Human conflict in exploration of natural resources in the province of Cabo Delgado.”
Based on 12 presentations grouped into three thematic panels: (i) armed violence in the north of Cabo Delgado; (ii) exploitation of natural resources and conflicts; and (iii) extractive industry and public policy, the seminar brought many findings and recommendations towards improving the governance of natural resources, the content of which is summarized through the Pemba Declaration.
