Surjan Singh, former director of Credit Suisse, who helped to mobilize the financing of hidden debts and told how it all began, was in a court in Brooklyn, New York, on Tuesday. He said that the loan originally designed for Mozambique to finance the protection of its Special Economic Zone (SEZ) was $350 million, however, the final value of the hidden debts ended up exceeding $2 billion because Surjan Singh and his colleagues at Credit Suisse they mobilized more money to increase the amount of illicit commission they owed. Privinvest had promised the employees of the Swiss bank that it would pay a commission proportional to the loan amount raised by each employee. This is how the race for money from global investment funds to grant loans to Mozambique began.
