The Government, through the Technical Secretariat for the Implementation of the Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative ((EITI1), publicly presented on February 28, 2020 the 8th Report2 of this initiative to fulfill one of the requirements imposed by the initiative.
The EITI is a global standard that promotes the transparent and responsible management of natural resources by publishing information across the extractive industry value chain, that is, from the point of resource extraction to how those resources benefit the population. Essentially, the initiative promotes the publication of information (through periodic reports) of payments made by companies in the extractive sector and receipts declared by the State, thus promoting transparency in this sector.
The 8th EITI Mozambique report covers fiscal years 2017 and 2018, covering a total of 29 companies (of which 18 from the mining sector and 11 from the hydrocarbon sector) which represents a reduction of around 64% in the number of companies covered if comparing to the 7th Report.
