While materials are scarce in hospitals and health centers, in a country with a health sector highly dependent on donations, the Ministry of Health (MISAU) has had the luxury of having several medical items, valued at around 20 million meticais, incinerated. Through an official notice of November 9th of last year (2020), the deputy minister of health, Lídia de Fátima da Graça Cardoso ordered thousands of materials to be removed and incinerated “in the shortest possible time” to “gain more space in the warehouse”. (see attachments). These are products purchased through the State Budget.
The existence of outdated and unused products in the warehouse at the Supply Center in Maputo is a clear indication that the planning and distribution processes of sanitary articles or materials are deficient. This situation always generates crises of disruption of stocks in hospitals and health centers in the provinces and districts while these supplies are stored in Maputo.
