Lack of water and basic sanitation conditions in Niassa Sanitary Units

0

The Public Integrity Center (CIP) carried out the tracking of public expenditure in the health and water and sanitation sectors in five districts of Niassa province, namely Lichinga, Chimbunila, Sanga, Mandimba and Lago. The activity of tracking public expenditure in the visited districts served to collect evidence of facts that occur on the ground, in some cases different from what has been reported in official documents. This activity focuses (but is not limited to) the actions carried out under the GoTAS II Program, in the years 2018 and 2019.

The main findings in these districts are similar. There are sanitary units without adequate water; there is a weak or almost non-existent network of household connections throughout the districts; there is a shortage of boreholes and water supply systems in general; the hospital waste management system is precarious, having in some cases exceeded the installed capacity, without neglecting the limited number of health personnel working in health centers and their entire value chain.
