The Health and Water and Sanitation sectors, in 2020, presented a positive performance, in terms of budget execution of around 92% on average. However, they continue to present challenges in the investment component and in terms of allocation between the central and provincial levels.
In these sectors, there was a significant increase in the budget compared to previous years. The budget for the health sector increased from 2019 to 2020 by 25%, a figure that represents 19 percentage points (pp) above the average increase seen in the period between 2016 and 2020. The water and sanitation sector also registered an increase in relation to the initial 2020 budget. These increases can be justified by the funds made available by international partners to these sectors for the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
