The Assembly of the Republic created, through the Mining Law (20/2014, of 18 August) the High Authority for Extractive Industry (AAIE), an entity that must be established by the Government by the end of August 2015. In an atypical arrangement, the law leaves to the Government the definition of the legal framework, including competences, composition and mechanism for appointing members. It's been 12 months since the Law was passed and nothing has been heard about this matter. Is the AAIE a potential white elephant?
