The Government and Electricidade de Moçambique, EP are no longer competent to set electricity tariffs and prices in Mozambique. This task becomes the responsibility of the energy sector regulator, in this case, the Energy Regulatory Authority (ARENE), created through Article 1 of Law No. 11/2017, of 8 September.

This is because Law No. 11/2017 states in paragraph d) of Article 7 that among ARENE's powers is to “Establish and approve tariffs and prices for energy, gas and petroleum products regulated under the law and guarantee the its application”.
